My name is Tomas Salem, but friends call me Taco. I’m a social anthropologist sailing across the oceans on my sailboat Falkor, exploring people’s relation to faith, nature, and ideas about the good life through photography and text.
As an anthropologist and photographer I am interested in exploring our relationship to the environment through image, film, and text.
I’m currently sailing from Barcelona to Australia onboard Falkor, on a journey in search of that which unites us as humans, regardless of culture and creed. It is an exploration of sustainable and alternative ways of living and an experiment in spontaneous, unplanned, and intuitive way of travelling as a group in dialogue with the environment and people we meet.

My research spans Brazilian policing and politics, environmental ethics, tourism, mountaineering culture, spirituality, and our relationship to the sea. My book Policing the Favelas in Rio de Janeiro is available for order and download here.
